My letter to ProEars

Dear ProEars,

This week I wore my new Pro Ears Predator Plus to the range. They're even nicer looking than in the photos and the camo is beautiful. They're extremely light, thin and comfortable, and the low profile kept them out of the way while shooting. I brought both my SKS and 17HMR to see how my ears handled the sound of each. I happened to be stationed between two guys who were shooting large caliber handguns (something I always avoid), and one thing I noticed was that the shooting sound, though not totally blocked, didn’t hurt my ears. I was able to hold conversations with the guys around me as if my ears weren’t covered. The gunshots didn’t turn off the sound, but the damaging sounds were filtered out so that the filtering wasn’t noticeable. They were so comfortable and natural that during the ceasefire I forgot to remove them. Shooting my rifle was a new experience. I first noticed that I could hear the quiet ‘clink, clink’ sounds of my cartridges tapping together as I loaded my rifle. When I started shooting, the sound was very manageable. I forgot how much hearing my rifle fire added to the shooting experience. I was no longer shooting in a soundless vacuum!

This year I’ve taken up coyote hunting and I am amazed how the Predators amplify sound. The camo version blends right in to my clothing, so I’ll be wearing them while hunting. I have low frequency hearing loss in my left ear from shooting a good part of my life without hearing protection. In New England we hunt in dense forests at very close range. We often can’t see our target until it is a stone’s throw away. Good hearing is a necessity, and these Pro Ears will give me back the ability to hear the game prior to being in visual range. A QUICK UPDATE
I've been using my Pro-Ears while squirrel hunting over the past few weeks, and you wouldn't believe the added advantage they are giving me. With the ears off, everything seems dead and motionless. Put on the Pro-Ears, and my attention is drawn to every nut the falls to the ground or rustling of the leaves at the very top of the trees. Usually there's a squirrel involved in generating these sounds, and they would have been totally missed without the ears. Putting them on immediately makes everything seem to come to life! They really are amazing and I won't squirrel hunt without them.
